Los artículos acompañan a los sustantivos. En este caso, tenemos dos clases de artículos: definidos y indefinidos; según si especificamos una persona, animal o cosa en concreto o no.
Sería conveniente que pudieses consultar algún manual sobre gramática española, concretamente el tema de los artículos. De esta manera, aunque sea un manual de español, se facilita en el estudio del inglés, y como consecuencia se aprende más rápido.
A continuación se presenta una tabla en donde se muestran los artículos:

Como muestra la tabla, los artículos no distinguen entre masculino y femenino (género), tampoco lo hacen en cuanto a singular o plural (número). Se puede ver también que para el indefinido hay dos partículas, veremos enseguida porqué.
El artículo indefinido
Este artículo se usa delante de nombres contables, siempre que aparezcan en singular, si el nombre va en plural no se usa artículo. Veamos algunas frases:
I have a ball. -> Yo tengo una pelota.
She is with a man. -> Ella está con un hombre.
La existencia de dos partículas para un mismo artículo indefinido tiene un porqué. La partícula a se utiliza delante de consonantes, y de vocales que se pronuncian como un diptongo.
a pencil -> un lápiz a table -> una mesa
La partícula an se utiliza delante de vocales (sonidos vocálicos), o de una h que no se pronuncie (muda). A continuación un par de ejemplos:
an orange -> una naranja an hour -> una hora
El artículo indifinido se usa también en algunas expresiones de frecuencia, velocidad o precio.
sixty kilometres an hour -> sesenta kilómetros por hora
five times a week -> cinco veces a la semana
El artículo definido
Se utiliza delante de sustantivos para especificar la persona, animal o cosa a la que nos referimos. Puede acompañar al nombre en singular o en plural. También se utiliza con sustantivos que ya se han mencionado.
The moon is bright. -> La luna es brillante. (sólo hay una luna)
He live in my house, the house is comfortable. -> Él vive en mi casa, la casa es cómoda.
El artículo definido también se emplea cuando nos referimos a una familia por su apellido (the Smiths), también ante ríos (the Nile), mares, montañas; y en definitiva con los demás accidentes geográficos.
También lo utilizamos a la hora de nombrar un determinada instrumento musical, por ejemplo: the piano, the guitar o the flute. Cabe decir que los deportes no llevan artículo alguno.
Cuando nombramos edificios destinados al servicio público, como puede ser un supermercado o un hospital, utilizamos el artículo definido cuando vamos a esos edificios por un motivo distinto al que están destinados.
The parents go to the school to meet with theirs childrens. ->
Los padres van a la escuela a encontrarse con sus hijos.
En la oración anterior, los padres no van a la escuela con el propósito para el que fueron concebidas, que es el de estudiar. Por ese motivo se pone el artículo definido al sustantivo. Si hubiesen ido para estudiar, no se pondría el artículo.

El verbo 'To be' tiene una importancia especial en ingl�s. Se corresponde a los verbos espa�oles "ser" y "estar". Dependiendo del sentido de la frase deduciremos de cual de los dos se trata.
I am English / Soy inglès
I am in England / Estoy en Inglaterra
Tiene algunos usos especiales distintos a sus equivalentes espa�oles.
- Sirve para expresar la edad, en cuyo caso se traduce por 'tener':
Mary is 20 years old / Maria tiene 20 años
I am 21 / Yo tengo 21 años
How old are you? / ¿Cuàntos años tienes?
- Para expresar las sensaciones tambièn se emplea el verbo 'to be' y equivale al 'tener' español.
Are you hungry? / �Tienes hambre?
He is thirsty / Tiene sed
- Tambièn para hablar sobre el tiempo atmosfèrico. En este caso se traduce por 'hacer'
It's windy / Hace viento
It's very cold / Hace mucho frìo

En el Presente, las formas afirmativa y negativa se pueden contraer, mientras que en la forma interrogativa no. En el pretèrito solamente la forma negativa puede contraerse.
Las formas contraidas suelen utilizarse en la conversaciòn, pero no se usan de forma escrita salvo cuando el propio escrito tiene un caràcter informal o refleja una conversaciòn.

Possessive Adjectives Adjetivos Posesivos
Se utilizan para indicar a quién pertenece el sujeto u objeto de la oración. Van seguidos de un sustantivo (o una cláusula nominal).

Como se puede observar, son muchos menos que en español, ya que no se diferencian en singular o plural. Por ejemplo:
my car mi auto
my cars mis autos
Sin embargo, debe prestar atención cuando se refiere a la tercera persona, ya que en castellano se usa "su" en todos los casos, mientras que en inglés varían según la persona.
Note además que "your" puede referirse al singular (tu) o al plural (vuestro).

Si se está hablando de una persona y se describe su casa, se usaría his o her, según el sexo de dicha persona.
John lives in New York. His house is very big.

Pero si se habla de un animal se debe utilizar its.

1. Indican posesión o pertenencia y corresponde cada uno a cada persona gramatical.
2. Los pronombres se forman a partir de los adjetivos añadiendo una s al adjetivo, excepto en my, mine y en los que ya llevan la s (his, his; its, its).
3. El artículo que en castellano precede al posesivo no se traduce al inglés:
This book is mine (Este libro es el mío).
